Running On Empty

If you don’t live in the Southeast, you may not be aware of the gas situation that has been plaguing our area since Hurricane Ike. A large portion of our region, spanning from Nashville into North Carolina, receives gas from a pipeline directly from the Texas. When Ike hit, that pipeline shut down, and our region is now dependant on fuel tankers to deliver our gas. The problem is, those fuel tankers are few and far between, so for the past few weeks, most of our gas stations have been on limited supply (or out of gas completely).

Ryan and I have been lucky, until recently. We knew were to go to find enough to fuel our cars, but this Thursday, both of us were on empty and so were most of the gas stations in our area.

I finally discovered fuel at the sixth gas station I went to and had to wait 20 minutes in line. I’m pretty sure I got the last of it too because I was only able to fill up half-way and when I pulled away from the pump, so did everyone else. I feel bad for all the people waiting in line behind me.

Ryan coasted into a different station on fumes with his car, and had to fill up with 93-octane fuel, because it was all they had.

We’re both fine now and were able to make it to work, but it’s scary times! I guess we’re getting a taste of what it was like in the early 70’s… Lucky for us, things should be back to normal in the next week or so. I couldn’t imagine having to live in a constant hunt for fuel for longer than a few weeks.

The Amazing Maize Maze!

Could there be anything more fun than a complicated maze embedded within a corn field?

How about if you go in without a map, but have to collect pieces of the map at checkpoints throughout the maze?

Throw in a steady stream of Scottish music for ambiance and the fact that you get to carry around a giant flag to signal for help if you’re under distress, and you’ve got a smashing good time!

If you can’t guess, we visited Rural Hill’s Amazing Maize Maze on Sunday with the kids. This is one of our Fall-Time fun family events we look forward to every year. This year, we found all but four pieces of the map and with Magellan here leading the way, it took us only hour and a half to complete the maze.

Festival in the Park

This weekend the big event was the Festival in the Park. There were some activities for kids, a lot of booths where artists were selling their art, and some of the oldest clowns we've ever seen!

We weren't there long, but it was a beautiful day, so we took advantage of the walk around the lake. William got to pour some multi-colored sand into a bottle, and both kids enjoyed looking at the ducks.

The big hit was William's kettle corn. Although William was good about sharing with Megan, William ate most of this entire bag!! It's bigger than he is, he must have feeling horrible, but he ate every kernel with a smile on his face. That kid sure does love his popcorn.

Cool Pic

Ryan and I have been disappointed at our camera for a while now. It takes ok pictures, as long as the subject can stand still long enough for the picture to take. If you've ever met William or Megan, you'll know that they don't stand still for anything.

So we finally broke down and got a real camera, and this is one of the first shots we took. So far so good, right?

PS: That's a softball bat he's holding.

New Dress

Megan is a very lucky girl. She has a talented Grandma who makes the cutest dresses! Check it out!

What you don't see in the picture is the back of the dress (my favorite part). There's a zipper down the top half that ends in a tiny bow. Then the dress has a small pleat that fills out the rest of the skirt. I love it!!!

Megan was the best dressed in school on Friday, that's for sure. Thanks Grandma C.!!
