Sppppoooooky Cave...

... Not really, but it's close to Halloween, right? While in Hershey, we visited Indian Echo Caverns. A cool little cave with a very informative tour. The tour guide told us all about the history. Native American's used the cave for shelter and food storage back in the day. A hermit lived there for a while, but ended up dieing of over-exposure to smoke fumes. It was really neat.

The picture above is a cave pond.. crystal clear and completely still. Below, this just cracked us up, is graffiti! They're three sets of initials carved into a stalagmite. They haven't let anyone write on the cave rocks in over 100 years, so this is really old graffiti.. but what is so funny is that back in the day, they vandalized in Times New Roman.. with serifs and everything!

The Sweetest Place on Earth

As mentioned earlier, Ryan and I have recently celebrated our 5th Anniversary. Five years ago, we were married on Oct 18th, The Sweetest Day... litterally! It says so on the calendar.

So, it only makes sense that we would celebrate our anniversary in the sweetest place on earth, Hershey PA!

We had loads of fun. It's a very kid-friendly place... in fact, with so many kids, we almost felt bad we didn't bring ours. (almost) They had a good time hanging out with Grandma and Grandpa C. Check out their blog for pictures.

A Throne for the Birthday Girl?

I believe everyone deserves to feel special on their birthday... but a throne?? I guess now-a-days the kid-focused birthday facilities have thought of everything.

Today's special is.... Oatmeal!

It's official! William is big enough to enjoy breakfast at the breakfast bar.

Since he started, every morning he asks if he can eat his breakfast up on the stool. He climbs up by himself and often reads magazines while he's eating.

Oh.. my little boy is growing up fast.

5 Years Ago...

I can't believe it's been five years!! Ahh... that was such a fun day.

Tropical Storm Megan

Megan wasn't feeling so well earlier this week. So Tuesday, she stayed home with dad while he tried to work. During the course of one 30 minute conference call the following took place.

Also, notice the number of shoes strewn about? Have we mentioned Megan's facination with shoes? Every one of the shoes above, and some not pictured, were on her foot at one point.

Is a purse obsession an innate trait?

I cannot keep Megan out of my purse. Every time I turn around, she's pulling it off the counter and going through it. Once it's empty, Megan struts around with it on her shoulder.

Out of frustration, I gave her one of my old purses. She takes it with her everywhere.

She's not saying much yet, but who wants to take bets that her first word will be "Coach"?

Scarowinds

"That man is coming out of his hole!" This is what William tells us while he's eyeing the creepy decorations at our closest amusement park.

Carowinds (similar to a six flags) becomes "Scarowinds" in October. In addition to the nightly haunted houses, children can spend their weekends trick-or-treating with their favorite nickelodeon characters.

We didn’t do any trick-or-treating, on account of them handing out jolly-ranchers… blech!! But we did go on some roller coasters. The hit of the day? Scooby-doo’s Haunted Mansion. This was especially fun because Megan could go with us and William gets to catch ghosts and Scooby snacks with a laser gun. “Re-e-e-elp! Raggy!!”

Patterson's Farm

Another Cunningham October Tradition?? You've got it! This tradition started last year. We went to Patterson's Farm the first weekend in October, and it was so much fun, we decided to do it again.

We met our friends, Tiffany and Dylan, for a fun-filled October afternoon, complete with goats, a corn pit and tomater tossin'!

I can't name all the things we did, it was such a fun-filled afternoon (you'll just have to check out the pictures), but I can say it ended with a hayride. And... really, has there ever been a bad day that ended with a hayride???? I doubt it.

Where the Sidewalk Ends

We had a garage sale over the weekend, and while we unloaded lots of items we don’t use anymore, we couldn’t manage to sell this one.

It must have looked like she had a defect. :)

The Wizard of Oz

I can't remember if it was in October or not, but when I was a kid the Wizard of Oz ran on television every year. Those were simpler times, before Movies-On-Demand.. before DVRs. Back then, if you wanted to watch a show, you had to wait until 8PM and sit through ALL the commercials. William will never comprehend the old ways of television. "Oh, what a world, what a world."

He will, however, be able to appreciate one of the classic movies of all time, because starting this year, the Cunningham's have a new tradition: The first Friday night, "Movie Night", in October we will watch The Wizard of Oz!

Since this year was the first, we didn't know if all the tornados, witches and flying monkeys would scare him. "I do believe in spooks, I do believe in spooks. I do, I do, I do believe in spooks." I guess the worrying was for nothing, because he loved it!!

When the movie was over, he said: "That man lost his brain!" ha ha ha

Dancing Kiddos

Turns out Megan enjoys dancing just as much as William does!

Thomas' Bagels

Grocery shopping is a Sunday event at the Cunningham household. Each Sunday Ryan and I pray that the kids will behave long enough to weave up and down each aisle. We get the usual stuff every week.. starting from the produce side, going to the frozen foods side, and ending at the breads section.

I'm not sure when it started, but the last few times we've gone shopping, Megan starts getting really excited when we hit the breads. If I pick up our staple Thomas' Honey Oat Bagels, she actually starts squealing!

Most times, I give the bagels directly to Megan, but if I dare to toss them into the cart, Megan is turned around fishing them out faster than I can stop her. She holds the bagels, rocks them, gives them hugs, and is ultimately upset when she has to hand them over to the cashier.

Strange huh? She's never actually eaten one. She gets oatmeal for breakfast, but for whatever reason, she loves her Thomas' Bagels.

Welcome October!

It's October 1st, which means it's time to start talking about pumpkins!!

Pumpkins are great decoration, but are even better in recipes. So I'm going to ask everyone to share today. What's your favorite pumpkin dish?? I love pumpkin cookies... mmmmmm.
